The short answer. Casino operators fund UK.fo. Plenty of the buttons pointing at a casino are affiliate links, and if a reader opens an account via one, the operator may pay Sandpiperline Media B.V. a fee. That income affects which operators we list and in what order. No fee buys a verdict, a star rating or our quiet about harsh terms.
Five rules that apply to every page
- All affiliate links on the site pass through an address starting uk.fo/go/.
- Readers are never charged, offered subscriptions or asked for card details.
- Wagering, withdrawal caps, fees and recurring complaints are reported for paying and non-paying operators alike.
- No operator can buy the removal or rewriting of a passage in a review.
- Regulators, charities and helplines are linked without any tracking code.
Why commission at all
Writing and maintaining a few hundred pages costs money, and UK.fo charges its readers nothing. Referral fees from operators are what keep it running. We would rather say so on a page of its own than leave readers to guess, which is also what UK advertising rules expect of affiliate publishers.
How the arrangement works
Sandpiperline Media B.V. signs up to affiliate programmes that gambling operators run, either directly or through networks working on their behalf. Each programme issues a tracking code, and that code is built into the uk.fo/go/ addresses behind our buttons. A click on one triggers a brief redirect to the operator, carrying the code with it, which lets the casino attribute the visit to UK.fo.
Should you then register and fund an account, the operator credits us under its programme terms. One kind of deal pays a fixed sum per newly funded account; another shares out part of the operator’s net revenue from those players for an agreed stretch; a third blends the two. None of these models alters what you pay or the deal on offer: the promotion belongs to the operator, and its terms do not depend on the route: a reader who clicks our button and one who finds the casino on a search engine see the same promotion, unless a page tells you that a bonus code is needed.
Payment is made on the operator’s own records. We cannot see your account, your stakes or your balance, and we have no say over anything that happens inside it: verification, bonus crediting, limits, withdrawals and account closure are all the operator’s decisions. Programme terms let an operator cancel commission for accounts it considers fraudulent or duplicated, and operators sometimes end a programme altogether, after which their buttons on UK.fo either point to a plain address or disappear.
Fees vary from operator to operator and from month to month. We do not publish individual rates, because programme contracts usually forbid it, but the fact of payment is never hidden from readers.
Bonus codes
Occasionally a page mentions a code to enter at sign-up. Codes are set by the operator, may be tied to our tracking link and can be withdrawn without notice. When one stops working, the operator’s current promotion terms are what you are entitled to.
Where commercial interest shows
It is better stated openly. Commercial agreements influence which operators make it into our lists and the positions they occupy. A licensed operator with no agreement may be missing from a list, and an operator with one may sit higher than an editor would place it on merit alone. That is why our lists are selections, not independent rankings, and why the disclaimer warns that the top slot proves nothing about quality.
What money does not decide
Facts in a review are not for sale. Wagering, game weighting, maximum stake rules, payout caps, verification delays, charges and closed markets are described as we find them, paying operator or not. A request from an operator for gentler wording is handled like any correction: the page changes only when the facts back it.
How to spot an affiliate link
Rest the pointer on a button, or long-press it on a touchscreen, to see its destination. An address beginning uk.fo/go/ means a tracked link that may earn us money. What we link at GamCare, BeGambleAware, GAMSTOP and the Gambling Commission, plus payment providers and news sources, leads directly to those sites without a code, and links between our own pages never leave uk.fo.
Cookies tied to tracking
Opening a /go/ address places two cookies, mozbiz_session and XSRF-TOKEN, that let the redirect complete and expire after roughly twenty hours. Separately, the site-wide mz_vid and mz_src cookies tally visits and record where readers came from. The privacy policy and the cookie table give the details.
Advertising standards
Offers shown to readers in Great Britain should carry their significant terms, an 18+ marker and a safer gambling message, in line with the advertising codes in force in the UK. We avoid material that appeals to under-18s and never present gambling as an answer to money worries. If a page falls short of that, tell us.
